THE PRINCETOWN PORTUGUESE FESTIVAL
The Princetown Portuguese Culture Festival is an annual event that celebrates what it means to be Portuguese. The festival needed to be re-branded to show Portugal in a more modern light, while remaining true to the culture and traditions of this small country.
When one thinks of Italy, the first thing that comes to mind might be its distinct food. France will evoke feelings of high art and romance. The Spanish have dance and the Greeks have a history that cannot be ignored. What does Portugal have? This redesign answers that question.
The traditional symbol of Portugal is the rooster. While keeping with tradition, I replaced it's dated shape with a modern vector.
Red and green, reminiscent of the Portuguese flag was replaced with mostly muted, introspective colours to represent the soul of the Portuguese people: Suadade and Fado. Rockwell serves as a typeface to reflect the homes and architecture of the Azorean islands (small square homes that cover the countryside of the Azores, an island chain in the Atlantic Ocean, west of the mainland of Portugal).
The redesign included schedules, tickets, posters and other artwork, all bilingual.
